Gordon Biersch Awarded at Great American Beer Festival

Brewery Restaurant Recently Recognized for Excellence in Brewing

Chattanooga, Tenn. (November 7, 2011) – Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant took home two bronze medals at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). The flagship dark lager Schwarzbier, brewed by Drew Colpitts in Gordon Biersch Seattle, was recognized in the “German-Style Schwarzbier” category, joining the gold medals won in 2006 and 2007. Goze, a sour beer with Bavarian origins brewed by Kevin Blodger in Gordon Biersch Rockville, won the bronze medal in the “German-Style Sour Ale” section of the competition. The bronze medals won at 2011’s festival brought Gordon Biersch’s total medal count to 21. Since its founding year in 1988, Gordon Biersch has been awarded 16 medals at the GABF and 5 medals at the World Beer Cup.

“I was immensely excited when they announced that Gordon Biersch had won a bronze for the Schwarzbier,” said Tom Dargen, Director of Brewing Operations at Gordon Biersch. “It was also thrilling to see Kevin Blodger of Rockville win a medal for his Goze, which is a fairly different German-Style sour beer. Seeing our brewers receive these honorable awards for their hard work and passion was extremely gratifying. It was a proud moment for all of Gordon Biersch.”

The GABF is America’s longest running and largest gathering of breweries in the US, uniting the brewing community with beer enthusiasts in a celebration of the quality and diversity of American-brewed beer. The GABF aims to educate beer lovers from across the country through a competition judged by an internationally renowned panel of qualified beer judges. After three days of evaluation, bronze, silver and gold medals in 83 different beer-style categories are awarded to the breweries that have achieved excellence in brewing. This year’s festival was held from September 29th to October 1st.
