Big River Grille Donates Over $1,000 to Chattanooga's Homeless After Successful Brewer's Select Promotion Local Reverend Involved in Creating The Seasonal Scottish Ale

5/21/2010

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (May 21, 2010) - Chattanoogans lent a hand to people in need by simply enjoying glasses of chilled, slow-brewed Scottish Ale from Big River Grille's downtown location. On Thursday, February 4th, patrons had the pleasure of trying the limited-time-only beer while contributing over $1,000 to aid the area's homeless population.

For every Scottish Ale sold at the downtown location's tapping party, $1 of the sale was donated to Metropolitan Ministries. The organization, located at 1112 McCallie Avenue, provides assistance for people in the Chattanooga area who are on the verge of homelessness. Big River Grille's donation will aid in keeping area families in their homes by paying their bills and will also provide vital medicines to people that need them.

The Big River Grille management team presented a check for $1,053 to Metropolitan Ministries on February 17th. Present at the ceremony was Rev. Robert Childers, who played an integral part in the production of Scottish Ale.

Childers, an accomplished home-brewer, worked in conjunction with Big River Grille's Director of Brewery, Clay Gentry, to devise the beer. He then put in a 9-hour day in the brewing facility at the downtown location assisting with the 8-step brewing process. The Reverend's delicious Scottish Ale touted a caramel-like sweetness balanced by subtle hop bitterness.

Rev. Childers was present at the tapping party to kick of the annual "Brewer's Select" promotion featuring Scottish Ale. He blessed the beer and also spoke about his own brewing experiences. Guests enjoyed passed appetizers and samples of Scottish Ale while enjoying live music from The Highlanders.

The mission of Metropolitan Ministries is to receive with dignity and respect all who come to us by providing them the emotional and physical help needed. The Ministry offers them the opportunity to gain deeper faith in themselves and hope for their own futures as independent, contributing members of the community.
